Department of Health calls upon South Africans to protect themselves and loved ones from injuries, deaths, and to drink and enjoy responsibly during the festive season.

Listeriosis is a serious, but treatable and preventable disease caused by the bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes and is widely distributed in nature and can be found in soil, water and vegetation. 

 The Department of Health together with the South African AIDS Council(SANAC) will commemorate this year's World AIDS Day at Walter Sisulu University Stadium, Mthatha in Eastern Cape province on 01 December 2017.

 03 December marks the commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development. 

 The provincial National Health Insurance (NHI) Workshops are set to convene in Gauteng this week from 23-25 November 2017, in line with the NHI White Paper which requires stakeholder engagement.

Since the outbreak of the plague in Madagascar in August, WHO( World Health Organisation) and the Ministry of Public Health of Madagascar initiated measures at points of entry to mitigate international spread of plague in October 2017.
