National EMS Day Launch 2019

National EMS Day Launch 2019

The National Launch of EMS Day takes place on 17 October 2019 in Wentworth, Durban to recognise the important role of EMS in the attainment of universal health coverage within the country.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize will officially launch the "112" Emergency Number, as well as branding of the new national EMS corporate identity (vehicles, uniforms, rank and medical insignia) which are now standardised across all provinces.

On the other hand, the NHI Bill gives prominence to Emergency Medical Services as an integral component of the health care system and outlines the essential components that need to be in place in order for EMS to be effective and efficient within NHI.

The purpose of the National EMS day is to raise awareness on the role of EMS and create a platform for recognition of special achievements as well as to honour all EMS personnel who often go beyond the call of duty.
